Accountant – Finance Lead

The Shuswap Recreation Society provides management of recreation facilities and programing for the City of Salmon Arm. With a team-focused culture and commitment to collaboration, we are seeking an Accountant - Finance Lead with a strong accounting background, to support our administration team.

The position

Reporting to the General Manager, the Finance Lead is a key member of the leadership team; providing oversight of financial activities and reporting, and supporting other leaders with financial guidance/expertise across the organization. This position is responsible for collaborating with advisors to develop, implement and monitor policies, systems and financial controls.

Specifically, this position is accountable for:

  • Collaboratively ensuring that day-to-day financial activities and reporting are completed accurately and on a timely basis;
  • Collecting and interpreting financial data and providing financial statements, reports and guidance to internal stakeholders and the board;
  • Assisting the organization with annual budgeting and reporting processes;
  • In cooperation with the General Manager, contributing to the maintenance of a healthy workplace culture;
  • Assessing team and operational effectiveness, and spotting opportunities for continuous improvement;
  • Supporting HR administration processes, including payroll, benefits and employee relations.

Requirements:

We’re looking for a team player with a great attitude, and:

  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in an administrative or accounting role;
  • Two (2) years of experience leading and/or supporting a team, or equivalent;
  • Superior knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles;
  • Strong financial expertise and attention to detail;
  • Strong understanding and comfort working with technology and various programs or applications, including Microsoft Office;
  • Familiarity with payroll legislation and B.C Employment Standards;
  • Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrates strong integrity, ethics and confidentiality.

A post secondary degree or diploma in finance or accounting is preferred, but not required.  This position requires the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and work within the pressure of deadlines. The successful incumbent will oversee a small team and possess exceptional communication skills (both orally and written), to effectively build relationships within the organization, the general public and the Board of Directors.

Part Time Lifeguards

The City of Salmon Arm is currently seeking Part Time Lifeguards at the SASCU Recreation Centre.  These positions are part-time (including evening and weekend shifts).  Applicants must hold a National Lifeguard (NL), CPR Level C and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) award.

Part Time Arena Attendant

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for the installation and resurfacing of ice at the arena, including the operation and maintenance of equipment such as the ammonia refrigeration plant and ice resurfacer.  This position also provides custodial service and minor repairs and maintenance for the building’s washrooms, dressing rooms, etc. 

Candidates for this position will have their BC Refrigeration Operators Certificate (Ice Facility Operator may be considered) and a minimum of 1-year experience in the maintenance and operation of an ice arena.  All other qualifications are included in the full job description here - PT Arena Attendant

Remuneration for this position is in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement, $30.91/hr plus 14% in lieu of benefits. This is a seasonal position with varying hours.
